As most people know small businesses are struggling due to the Coronavirus. Right now it is extremely important to consciously choose to buy and order from local businesses over big box stores and chain restaurants. If you don’t your favorite café that you would always get your coffee from on the way to work might not be open when this is all over.
Here are a few ways to help out keep small, local businesses open:
Buy gift cards
Many businesses are relying on gift card sales to stay afloat right now. Call your favorite restaurant or shop to buy a gift card. You can save it for later or send it to a friend or family member.
Think of your favorite local shop…it could be a jewelry shop or bookstore. Place an order online through them instead of shopping at big box stores.
Get take out/delivery
Order take out from a local restaurant at least once a week if you can. Many local restaurants have seen a decrease in orders as much as 90% since social distancing has taken place in NYS.
Does your favorite local restaurant also sell merchandise like coffee mugs or t-shirts? Find one you like and order it!
Take an online class
From workout to art classes there are a lot of small businesses taking advantage of technology to still provide you with their services. Try a new class online right now and you could pick up a new hobby that you will love for years to come!
Remember to consciously choose to order and buy local, you could be that business’ only order that day. It is more important than ever to remember that we have to stick together as a community.
